Back In The Day-Bellamy Brothers (Bellamy Brothers)

Okay, every popular music authority will agree that the organ riff from “96 Tears” is one of the all-time great rock ‘n roll garage-band hooks. That song was literally recorded in a garage in Michigan in the middle 60s and is credited with being the very first Punk Rock hit; a Rolling Stone writer coined the term to describe the record. So when the Bellamy’s sing about ‘back in the day’ and that riff wafts in, us elders know precisely which day they’re singing about. Now, I don’t know that anybody under 50 will get into this one. Certainly it couldn’t hit the ‘kids’ with quite the nostalgic jolt it will their seniors. But a good record is a good record. It has a hook and a happy, nostalgic countenance.
