Felt Good On My Lips-Tim McGraw (Curb)

This here’s a really unique piece of work. It’s got a beat, a rhythm that is far removed from true Country. But it’s not really a Rock record ’cause the guitars aren’t screaming. I appreciate when a producer delivers a record with real energy but doesn’t let the record get “loud”. (Core listeners really dislike what they call “loud” records, by the way.) The song is about a chance encounter with an exotic beauty. Saying her odd name felt good on his lips. The strange drink she orders for him felt good on his lips. Next day, she’s gone and he’s got the memory of an electric evening. First time I listened to it, I thought it was maybe a bit too exotic to be a Top 10 contender. Now the thing is under my skin and I’m finding I can’t listen to it just once. Each time I click the play button, I gotta listen twice or more.
