When you build a song based on mentioning a lot of different towns, it almost never makes for a hit. Chuck Berry did it with “Back In The USA” way back in ’59 and he was so certain it would be a big one, he had the song pressed to both sides of the single, there was no B-side on the 45. He was right. And he did it again with “The Promised Land” in ’65. There’ve been a few others, not many. After three spins, I’m thinking the Kracker may have one here. His lyric is: American’s my hometown, and it mentions a touchstone town from each section of the country. It’s patriotic without falling into flag waving. A nice listen.
