Here’s a two and a half minute records stretched to an indulgent 3:44. Ok, on the side, I have noticed a refreshing dial-back in this area. A lot more songs coming at me that clock in at about 3:00. You know how long “Yesterday” is? 2:01. “Ain’t No Sunshine”? 2:03. Yes, “Stairway to Heaven” is seven minutes, but still the majority of the biggest hit records clock in at three minutes or less. There’s a reason for that. People today won’t take the time to read books or even magazine articles longer than about ten paragraphs. In Twitter-world, what makes singers think anybody wants to spend more than three minutes with a song?
