The man’s voice is smooth as silk, rich with character. So why is it that, other than his first single, I’m yawning whenever I hear him? I think it’s due to his corporate packaging. This record sounds like a project, a “product”. Great voice, check. Sappy, but not too sappy lyric, check. Top session players, check. Now let’s do this thing so we can all get home before six.
