Quite the audacious record, this one is. The two really stand out songs on his new album are Firebird and this one. Both of ’em feel like greatness. The new single here is an in-your-face, can’t-be-ignored piece of work. I don’t remember the last song with a stutter-hook, but we love’em. When they work, they work big time. Think “You Ain’t Seen Nothin’ Yet”/Bachman-Turner Overdrive, the classic rock/top 40 song that never dies. I heard that one in the background music at the grocery store last month. Along with the stutter-hook, the descriptions of what’s he’s done in the immediate aftermath of her showing him the door are wry, funny and hugely amusing. The production/arrangement is terrific and it comes in right at 3 minutes. Here we have one super-great radio record.
