It isn’t the next best song on the album. That would be “I’m Good”. But this has a couple good things going for it. First, Ms Shepherd herself is distinctively Country. She doesn’t have quite the backwoods twang in her singing voice as Loretta, but close. From the first phrase you know she’s Country-bred. Second, just about all the songs about “bein’ Country” are by guys and as far back as I can now remember, just about every female I’m Country song has been sung by young ladies who were only two steps away from the pole. Poseurs. This time, this record, this woman, it all rings true.
