Some years ago, at about the same time, two very talented young blonde singer/songwriters were signed to Sony labels. Ashley recorded a really fine collection of songs for the first album but the deal was, they didn’t want to release it until she had a Top 20 hit. Didn’t happen (and I still find it hard to believe “Satisfied” wasn’t huge). The other one, Miranda, went platinum. Turned out there’s not enough room in the label’s pipeline for two blondes at the same time and Ashley was dropped. She continued writing and her songs were recorded by Jason Aldean, Carrie Underwood and Miranda. They became buddies and now make up two-thirds of The Pistol Annies. Ashley’s second album is a thing of joy. It’s the equal to Kacey Musgraves’ new one, in my opinion. This song is gentle in feel, but it is expressing some passionate love. It sticks with me.
