Maybe this “I’m a wild boy” schtick will work for him, it has often enough, but it fails more often than it works. It’s kinda hard for me to enjoy such odes to anti-social behavior now. Bragging about driving county roads at 105 miles an hour deserves a short term in the lock-up for a wake-up call rather than a celebratory rant, according to me. And yes, I ‘spect I may have done a few similar things to those detailed here when I was 20, (not the fast drivin’ though, I had a beetle). But, our core audience is way past that demo. It’s a very well produced record, of course; Keith Stegall’s work. Chris is an ok singer. On the other hand, he sounds like a lot of other guys out there now. He’ll need to have some distinctive stuff on his coming album in order to carve out a unique brand. Otherwise, it’s gonna be a bit of the ol’ Me-To package.
